Yamla Pagla Deewana 2 is obviously the sequel to the first one and was released with much fun fare and for the first time the Deols especially Sunny Deol was not shy with the media. Did this help them? Did being produced under the YashRaj Films banner help in any way? None of it mattered because while the one liners in the dialogues were fun, they couldn’t save a sinking script.

The plot was to marry a rich girl and get a lifetime of wealth, but little did the father-son team of Dharmendra and Bobby Deol know that the girl’s father Sir Yograj Khanna played by Anu Kapoor (probably hired because of his Vicky Donor fame) was drowned in debt and even when the other son Sunny points it out, they didn’t want to listen. The plot gets weaker as they scramble to hold on to the quest for wealth and in comes in the number two girl or daughter and a second love story. This time the two new faces are Neha Shamra who plays Bobby’s love interest and then Kristina Akheva who plays Sunny’s girlfriend. Finally there is unnecessary threats from an unwanted villain Dude G played by Anupam Kher and his cronies Johnny Lever as Bunty and Sucheta Khanna as Babli. There is also an irritating monkey that is supposed to be some kind of “baba” and he adds really no value to the fun, acts as a small catalyst to the story but even he could have been avoided. The stretched dialogues referring to films from time to time get boring and somewhat predictable. The music of the film is not wow but worth noting, especially the song “Suit tera laal rang da” by Sonu Nigam and Sunidhi Chauhan. There are some special moments between father and sons, but sadly their good looks and humility doesn’t keep you glued. One time watch is alright especially is it is just baseless pass time and they should not bother making number 3.
