When a true story makes headlines around the world and especially at the Academy Awards, you have to sit up and take notice. Dev Patel is back in India and searching for his family.

After his successful debut in the Danny Boyle film Slumdog Millionaire, Dev plays Saroo Brierley who is adopted by Australian parents and then goes back to India in search of his family with the help of Google Earth.

This is a big film for Director Garth Davis and he has certainly delivered a magnificent story. Cinematographer Greg Fraser has captured both Australia and India in the most stunning way possible, while still maintaining the reality of the situation, for example when young Saroo wakes up alone at a platform at the railway station, the loneliness creeps you up too.

The star of the film however remains the young Sunny Pawar who plays young Saroo. This little kid wins your heart and the story spends a good 30 minutes in the beginning in India, a risky proposition but Garth Davis knew what he was doing. Nicole Kidman as Sue Brierley, Saroo’s adoptive mother is superb and being such a mother in real life too must have added to her work in this film. David Wenham as John Brierley, Saroo’s adoptive father is good too and also Rooney Mara as Lucy, Saroo’s girlfriend is excellent.

This true story is remarkable and worth a watch. The film has been adapted from the book A Long Way Home by Saroo Brierley and Larry Buttrose.

Bollywood actors Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Tannishtha Chatterjee and Deepti Naval also add their excellent skills to their short roles.

LION is a story of the brave, the lost and the hopeless who overcome life’s harsh realities of belonging.

In the month of Ramadhan and the preparation begins for Mr Khan’s big release “Kick”. While last year belonged to SRK for “Chennai Express” 2014 is for the darling of Eid releases Salman Khan.

Kick has been directed and produced by Sajid Nadiadwala and he is known to make big budget films with fairly large box office collections. Sajid makes his directorial debut with this film and as a Producer he has worked with Salman Khan in Judwaa, Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega and more. The film’s plot is based on a character known as “devil” and the catch me if you can between the villain, cop and hero. So far in the trailers Salman Khan is showing off 3 looks of which one has a Krrish style mask. The real mystery unveils on 25th July and singing to the tunes is the heroine Jacqueline Fernandez, whose role must be nothing than long legs, innocent looks and shiny smile. Look out for the actors Randeep Hooda and Nawazuddin Siddiqui. We wait with a leg to just give it the right “Kick”.

With a power packed sequel, comes director Rohit Shetty for Singham Returns on 15th August. Opening on the Independence Day weekend, it is expected to arouse patriotic sentiments and especially with a newly elected Government most should still be in celebration mode. No guesses here, but his lead remains Ajay Devgn, only this time heroine is Kareena Kapoor Khan. Rohit is known for his simple stories and action sequences, let’s see how much blast this sequel will make at the box office.

Then comes the bubbly Parineeti Chopra in the YashRaj Film “Daawat-e-ishq” for 5th September. Although this is not a very new role for her, it is a new one for her hero Aditya Roy Kapur. She plays the uninterested mystery lover and he is a die-hard romeo. The film has been directed by Habib-Faisal who made Parineeti’s debut film “Ishqazaade” so expectations are reasonable. The interesting character and relationship will be of father and daughter, Anupam Kher and Parineeti Chopra and then music is always brilliant from a YashRaj Film, so hold your appetite for this kitchen romance.
